The planning authority yesterday approved a permit for a 30-metre communications tower in Dwejra, limits of Mosta.

The project, which already had an outline permit, involves the tower at one end of the site and the use of an existing room at the other end.

The planning report had said the project was recommended for approval because there already was an outline permit. The permit was given with seven votes in favour and three against.

The trapezium-shaped site occupies an area of approximately 920 square metres and is found within a rural conser - vation area and is listed as a scheduled grade 1 area of High Landscape Value.

The footprint of Dwejra Lines, which were fully scheduled as part of the Victoria Lines complex in 2000, are located approximately 30 metres due north of the site. Meanwhile, the board also turned down two requests for mobile towers in the same site.
