The Thatcher years

I would like to ask Julian Borg, who wrote about Margaret Thatcher’s funeral, if he lived in the UK during Thatcher’s years in power? If he did then he would know how she turned the UK into a ghost country.

I left school to no jobs and no money. If you were one of the lucky ones you could get a Y.O.P scheme placing at £25 per week for 60 plus hours of work per week.

My family from the Black Country had no work for five years as there was nothing left – no steel works, no factories, nothing. The heart of our world was finished.

The coal miners had it worst and as Mr Borg put it, especially in the North. If one lived there one would understand how these people feel about the Iron lady.

I appeal for readers not to pass comments about things they know little about. I think £3.5 million is still too much to pay for a funeral in these hard times.

They should have been used for our troops who have no work or are injured in the line of duty and are pushed to one side after use.
