The Government and the unions say they will be doing whatever they can to fight for workers’ rights, eliminating precarious places of work. Although this is a good thing, it could have serious negative effects on the workforce, leading to more unemployment.

There was a time when I was unemployed and had no choice but to seek a precarious job, not the best of jobs one must admit, but at least I was working and earning a wage, which allowed me to put food on our table.

I would suggest that before every legal body starts banging their war drums about this subject, a carefully drawn-up plan be established that could slowly be implemented allowing companies to adjust their work structure.

Sometimes it’s not just about doing what is right, but doing it the right way, for at the end of the day it’s the workers who would suffer if they lost their jobs, and not the unions.
