An asylum seeker who said he was 12 to avoid deportation from Britain was rumbled by his shaving, The Sun reported.

The Afghan was put in a children’s home rather than a detention unit, knowing that being classed as a lone minor made being sent back less likely. Staff at the Birmingham home were stunned to find the new arrival had facial hair, a deep voice and a tattoo.

But it took four more years to prove his real age and unmask his other lies about fleeing persecution. The 22-year-old now faces deportation after judges at an immigration tribunal in London ruled against him. (PA)

Caribbean nasty habits

Colombian police who stopped three nuns when they arrived on the Caribbean island of San Andres on a flight from Bogota found four pounds of cocaine strapped to each of their legs.

A police spokesman said the three women seemed nervous and the fabric of their habits did not look right.

All three broke into tears and launched into tales of financial hardship when they were caught. (PA)

Hunt for ‘Hulk’ woman

Police in North Yorkshire are hunting a woman suspected of carrying out an assault while dressed as the Incredible Hulk.

A 17-year-old girl suffered a black eye and other facial bruising in an attack outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Blake Street, York, by a woman covered in green body paint with dyed red hair.

Detective Constable Cheryl Hunter, of York CID, said: “This appears to have been a wholly unprovoked assault.” (PA)

Free train pass for life

Mexico City’s mayor has given a baby boy born in one of the city’s subway stations a free train pass for life.

The baby’s 22-year-old mother was trying to take the subway to the hospital when she went into labour.

Subway employees, police and paramedics helped her give birth in a passageway to a platform. (PA)

Spider-man Governor

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was not in a pardoning mood when a small spider crawled on to his desk while he spoke to a group of schoolchildren.

Speaking softly, Mr Christie squashed it and told the pupils that one fun part of being Governor is you were allowed to kill any insects that appeared on your desk without getting into any trouble.

Mr Christie tweeted that he had “saved a few school children from a spider”.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said he probably killed it without thinking. (PA)

Shopfront frozen in time

A shopfront has been left frozen in time for more than a decade after its owner left it exactly as it was on the last day of business.

Brian Moore took over George Moore Menswear in Bowes Park, northwest London, after his father passed away in 1969.

But when it came time for his own retirement 12 years ago, Mr Moore could not bring himself to clear out the family shop, so left everything exactly as it was.

The store has remained untouched and has since become an unusual relic of the fashion of the day. (PA)
