PN leader Lawrence Gonzi this morning cast his vote in the ballot being held to confirm Simon Busuttil as his successor.

In the election for party leader last Sunday, Dr Busuttil came first with 50.3 per cent of the votes cast.

Mario de Marco who gained 38.5 per cent of the votes, withdrew from the race as did second runner up Francis Zammit Dimech, who got six per cent of the votes cast.

Raymond Bugeja, who garnered 5.2 per cent, was automatically eliminated.

Dr Busuttil needs two-thirds of the councillors’ votes be be declared leader.

PN secretary general Paul Borg Olivier and president Paula Mifsud Bonnici cast their votes shortly after Dr Gonzi.
