Raymond Caruana, one of two men accused of attempting to bribe late judge Ray Pace was today granted a change in his bail conditions to allow him to go abroad in connection with his work as a truck driver.

The decision was taken after an application by lawyer Veronique Dalli.

She argued that in terms of the law, Mr Caruana, had always appeared in court as requested and he was therefore seeking a relaxation of his curfew and permission to go abroad to work as a truck driver.

Police Superintendent Norbert Ciappara said that the prosecution was objecting to the removal of the bail conditions about travel but not to the extension of the curfew to midnight.

Magistrate Edwina Grima said she was allowing Mr Caruana to go abroad because of his work as a truck driver, against a deposit of €3,000. She also extended his time allowed out to 1am.

Judge Pace was found dead on Sunday. His funeral was today.
