On April 14, 2013 Nadur Youngsters celebrated their victory of the 63rd edition of the Gozitan football championship with a 3-3 draw in their match against Kerċem Ajax, who finished as runners-up in the final standings. The Youngsters’ player Anthony Portelli scored the dramatic equaliser in the second minute of stoppage time.

Although the match did not have any importance in the final standings, this 3-3 draw has brought about a unique phenomenon in the last two leagues of the Gozo Football Association’s highest division. The previous season, 2011-2012, was won by Xewkija Tigers.

In the last two seasons both Nadur Youngsters and Xewkija Tigers played 18 matches of which they won 13, drew four and lost one. In both cases, goals in favour were 49 and goals against 18, giving a goal difference of 31. Both teams ended with 43 points. This important and historic result in the Gozitan football championship was achieved just seconds before the referee whistled the end of the match. I thank Mario Borg for alerting me to this information.
