Three motorcyclists – Joe Vella, Philip Chircop and Alfred Bugeja, who is a lecturer at the Institution of Tourism Studies – will be undertaking the arduous challenge of driving their bikes from Malta to North Cape, Norway, in 31 days, in aid of All the Way Up for Charity 2013. The launch of the charitable event took place at the ITS in St George’s Bay.
The three men, who leave Malta on July 14 and return on August 15, will ride their bikes through Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Belgium, France, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. The 15,000-kilometre journey will take 31 days.
“We will have no back-up team or support vehicles – it will just be the three of us, our motorcycles and tents. We know it’s not easy but we have the support of people who know us and we will do it because it’s for a good cause,” said Mr Bugeja.
A good number of motorcycle clubs in countries the trio will be travelling through have shown a keen interest and will be helping them along their journey. The bikers intend to make stops to meet up with these clubs, which will be providing full coverage through their local news agencies as well as donating money directly to the charity ride.
Throughout the course of the journey, Josef Abela, Ivan Bartolo and Mario Mifsud from Motordrome will be taking care of keeping watchers updated via All the Way Up for Charity on Facebook.
Various groups and organisations have lent a helping hand, including ITS, Eurofreight Ltd, Malta Bikes Ltd., St James Hospital, Agency Support, Joe Vella Co Ltd, Link 2000, Valletta Grand Prix, Eurostar Ltd, Say It Malta, Kawa Riders, Perry Garage and Moto Guzzi Club Malta, and World Club. The event is being financed solely by the riders themselves.
