Historians have revealed hard evidence that America's first settlers resorted to cannibalism to survive the harsh winter of 1609.

Researchers said damage to the skull of a 14 year old girl they named "Jane" shows signs that she was dismembered, then eaten.

An account by one of the settlers recalled how they were forced eat their horses, dogs, cats, mice and snakes in order to survive the harsh conditions.

It's not known if Jane was murdered or died of natural causes.
