Mgr Aldo Cavalli
Apostolic Nuncio Mgr Aldo Cavalli this morning presented his credentials to President George Abela in a ceremony at the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta.
Mgr Cavalli, a graduate in political science, succeeds Mgr Tommaso Caputo who left the post in November when he was ordained Archbishop of Pompeii.
Speaking to journalists, Mgr Cavalli, 67, said he will be spending the coming months understanding the Maltese culture to be able to effectively communicate the Church’s values and gospel.
Mgr Cavalli is also the dean of the diplomatic corps since in Catholic countries, Apostolic Nuncios rank above ambassadors in diplomatic protocol.
