In his fifth consecutive year for Italy’s RN Bogliasco, Steve Camilleri has just brought to an end another successful season as his team’s top goal-hitter.

Playing against Promogest in the last match of the regular season – his 21st league outing – Camilleri netted his 47th goal of the championship, an average of 2.24 goals per match.

Besides again topping RN Bogliasco’s scoring charts, the ASA 2012 Player of the Year finished eighth in Italy’s overall strikers’ list, thus maintaining an outstanding record of always being included in the top ten in the rankings in an annual list which has rarely been lower than 140 players.

Bogliasco lost their last league match 8-7 to end the round-robin competition in eighth position on 23 points in the 12-team table.

This placing earned Bogliasco the right to contest the championship play-offs and a difficult match against AN Brescia, the team at the top of the table ahead of Pro Recco.

The two-legged quarter-final tie on Wednesday and Saturday resulted in defeats for Camilleri’s team, 14-5 at home and 11-4 away, with the Maltese player netting twice in each match for a total so far of 51 goals.

Bogliasco will now play for 5th to 8th placing.

Camilleri is then due to return to Malta for a rest, after which he will turn out for Neptunes in this year’s summer competitions starting on June 7.
