BUGEJA. On April 29, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH, of Rabat, residing at Paceville, aged 83, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Agnes, née Cachia, his children Lily and her husband Tonio Fenech, Charles and his wife Josette, his grandchildren Lara, Creta, Rebecca Theresa and Kurt and their fiancés and fiancée, his brother John and his wife Margerita and his sister Mary, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8am for St Paul’s Collegiate Church, Rabat were Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8.30am followed by interment at Santa Margerita Cemetery, Rabat. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest. The family would like to thank the staff at the Orthopedic Ward.

OVEREND – Fr ERIC, Archpriest of Żejtun, aged 47, and his mother CARMEN ABELA (sive Lilly) of Sliema, aged 80, went to meet the Risen Lord on April 28, at Mater Dei Hospital and on April 26 at St Vincent de Paule Residence respectively. They leave in mourning all relatives of the Overend family, their other relatives, close friends, neighbours in Sliema and the Żejtun parish community. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 4.15pm for Żejtun parish church where they will be lying in state in the Holy Sacrament Oratory till 8.15pm. A night vigil will be held in the parish church at 9pm. The funeral cortege with the participation of the clergy, local bands Beland and Żejtun and the local associations and community will leave the Holy Sacrament Oratory tomorrow at 8am. Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 10am at Żejtun parish church followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Archbishop’s Seminary, Tal-Virtú, willbe appreciated.

Requiem Masses

Today being the 12th anniversary of the death of JOHN LASPINA, the 6pm Mass at the Ursuline Crèche, Sliema, will be offered for the repose of his soul. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Sliema bazaar

A bazaar is being held at 49, Cathedral Street, Sliema, next door to Stella Maris parish centre, from tomorrow to Saturday. Open all day from 9.30am onwards.

Prayer meeting

A prayer meeting for the sanctification of priests and religious vocations will be held on May 11 at Gudja parish church. The prayer meeting starts at 9pm with Mass, followed by adoration until 11pm.

Hospice AGM

Hospice Malta is holding its annual general meeting on May 20 at 6pm at 39, Good Shepherd Avenue, Balzan.

Examinations Board

The new Examinations Board will be chaired by Anthony De Giovanni, while the board members are Renée Laiviera, Joseph Xerri, Albert Farrugia and Rebecca Maria Gatt as secretary.

Barrakka Lift

The Barrakka Lift service will be suspended today from 3pm as an official function will be held at the Upper Barrakka Gardens. The service will resume tomorrow at 7am.

New counsellors

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has appointed 10 new counsellors within the Maltese Diplomatic Corps. They are: Chantal Sciberras, Maria Camilleri Calleja, John Buttigieg, Claude Bonello, Francesca Gatt, Franklyn Bonello, Hanan El Khatib, Therese Zahra, Ian Galea and Stefan Sant.
