So you can’t spank a child nowadays. It’s also against the law to throw a student out of class or give him a ‘copy’. If you shout at him because he’s swearing in class, most probably it’s the daily jargon he listens to at home and hence the teacher stands a very good chance of having an unexpected encounter with a parent.

It’s also unwise to take the students repetitively to the head of school as you stand a very good chance that you will be told that you are losing control of the class.

After school? It’s unheard of nowadays. Break in? Forget it. The break is the student’s right.

We’re living in a society where in a decade or two these students will be tomorrow’s society.

An after-school or two (in reality much more) never harmed my dignity.

And when I had to endure an ear pull it was effective.

On a side note I have always questioned how after PE lessons students are not allowed to shower themselves. Physical education lessons are often held early during the day; it is disgusting and unhygienic to have to endure the sweat and stickiness for the rest of the day!

Well, when they occupy the lowest echelons of society in a few years’ time these students will only have our dear modern system to thank for it.
