The Malta Fireworks Festival this year featured displays at Marsaxlokk and Ghajn Tuffieha.

The display ignited several small fires in the surrounding countryside as the picture below by Marc Casolani shows. No one was injured. A spokesman for the organisers - the Malta Tourism Authority - said precautions had been taken and fire engines were on the scene throughout the show, ensuring that fires were quickly extinguished.

The festival ends with a display over Grand Harbour tomorrow from 9 p.m.
