This year’s Challenge for a Smile, organised by Puttinu Cares in collaboration with Unilever, was the most successful, with more than double the number of people turning up when compared with last year.
The event raised over €27,000 for families affected by cancer. The money will be presented to Puttinu Cares during the Football Marathon in May. Unilever promoted the event through the media, with the participation of local radio DJ and television personality Gianni Zammit, who agreed to take on all three swimming, cycling and running challenges if the event’s Facebook page received over 4,500 likes.
As a result of a strong online interest, the page was seen by over 5,000 followers and Gianni attempted and completed all three challenges on the day.
Several participants gave their feedback, pointing out that the event was a great introduction to multidisciplinary events, was encouraging on a personal level to those involved and truly reflected the spirit of sportsmanship in support of a worthy cause. All three activities were well attended, especially the running and walking events.
Unilever brands Comfort, Flora pro.activ, Vaseline and Wall’s are running a You Buy We Donate campaign in selected supermarkets on their products until the end of this month. The money raised from this initiative will also be donated to Puttinu Cares during the marathon.
