Antonella Correra from the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General within the European Commission recently visited the Institution of Tourism Studies as part of the Enterprise Experience Programme (EEP).

Ms Correra met ITS executive director Adrian Mamo and other senior staff members.

The aim of the EEP is for European Commission officials to undergo a personal experience with businesses and industry stakeholders. This enables them to learn more about the challenges faced in the day-to-day running of their organisations.

Ms Correra, who is tourism and cultural instruments policy officer, discussed the consultation process to determine the skills and gaps prevailing in the tourism sector and to enhance the Skills Passport, proposed by the European trade association of hotels, restaurants and cafes (HOTREC) and the European Federation on Food, Agricutlure and Tourism (EFFAT) that will aid mobility within the sector.

The ITS also brought up a number of challenges associated with the participation in EU funding programmes such as Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus, which help students and lecturers in their vocational studies and knowledge.

Ms Correra was also shown around the ITS campus facilities, where she had the opportunity to meet students and lecturers at work.

Her visit was arranged by the Malta Business Bureau.
