Nestlé is celebrating 75 years of Nescafé. In the 1930s, Brazil had a huge coffee surplus and to solve the problem, the Brazilian Coffee Institute turned to Nestlé to develop a solution to stimulate demand for coffee.

Chemist Max Morgenthaler joined the company to help its researchers find a solution. Seven years after the project kicked off, the Nestlé research team, led by Dr Morgenthaler, created a new spray-drying process for coffee beans and gave birth to Nescafé, one of the biggest brands of instant coffee.

During World War II, Nescafé became a popular beverage of the US Armed Forces and from then on, its popularity increased considerably.

Today, more than 5,500 cups of Nescafé are consumed every second, with different varieties catering for different tastes and preferences around the globe.

Nescafé was introduced in Malta in the 1950s. The first blend was the Nescafé Classic tin from West Africa, followed by the Nescafé Classic jars from Brazil.

To mark its anniversary, Nestlé Malta is launching a Facebook exhibition, inviting all fans to submit memories and memorabilia connected with 75 years of Nescafé.
