The inaugural flight of a new Paris-Malta service by low cost airline Transavia.com was celebrated yesterday with a watery welcome for the aircraft by airport fire-fighters.

Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella was among those who welcomed the tourists and journalists who arrived on the flight.

Transavia.com is to operate two weekly flights between Paris and Malta.

Another three airlines will launch services to Malta next month - Air Baltic from Riga, Wizz Air from Budapest and Turkish Airlines from Istanbul.
