A Libyan man was jailed for 18 months after an Italian identified him as supplying the cocaine he was caught with on January 12.

The court heard that, in a raid at a Paceville club, Ala Edoin Ahmed Moftah, 37, from Tripoli, was caught with four sachets of cocaine and two ecstasy pills. He claimed they were for personal use.

However, Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras heard experts say all the sachets contained almost equal amounts of the white substance.

This denoted they were for sale and not for his personal us.

The magistrate ruled that Mr Moftah’s version could not be believed and sentenced him to an 18-month jail term and almost €1,000 fine.
