A 32-year-old woman was yesterday jailed for 18 months and fined €1,500 after pleading guilty to giving two teenage girls drugs after they ran away from a care home.

Chantelle Desira, from Żejtun, had taken five girls into her house and allowed them to live with her for about 10 days, later giving two of them heroin.

Ms Desira, who appeared before Magistrate Edwina Grima, also admitted to being in possession of ecstasy in July 2010.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.
