Hotsticks 1
Young Stars 2

Young Stars started brightly but failed to profit from two penalty corners awarded to them in the first six minutes.

From then on both teams prodded each other in midfield but could not breach the defensive lines.

Then, out of the blue, Dirk Gerritse’s half-hit shot deceived the Hotsticks goalkeeper to send Young Stars 1-0 up.

The second half was more eventful.

Hotsticks exchanged penalty corners with Young Stars with no outcome but on 46 minutes Young Stars went further ahead when Marvin Vella scored after a melee in the D.

Hotsticks did not lie down and aftercreating a chance in the 50th minute, they reduced the arrears four minutes later when Silas Plaehn’s shot was deflected into the net.

Luke Borg Costanzi’s angled shot flew just wide for Young Stars but for the rest of the game Hotsticks applied further pressure coming close to equalising through Simon Baldacchino. However, Young Stars hung for a close victory.

White Hart 0
Qormi 2

White Hart started the game on the gallop as they exerted pressure on the Qormi goal.

The first real threat for the league leaders took place in the 10th minute when Jonathan Borg shot past the post.

A period of balanced midfield play followed and on 27 minutes Qormi were awarded a penalty corner but to no avail.

Then, Qormi went ahead when Steve Tanti hit a scorcher into the corner of the net after picking up a rebound off the White Hart goalkeeper’s pads.

White Hart started the second half in the same vein as the first when Paul Torpiano and David Agius went dangerously close to reducing the arrears.

Qormi reacted and took their chance when Steve Tanti notched his second, putting them into a two-goal lead.

White Hart continued to share the exchanges and during an action following a penalty corner in the 65th minute, Qormi’s keeper effected three point-blank saves to keep his goal intact.

The final minutes saw both teams exchanging penalty corners but the final whistle blew with Qormi ending up 2-0 winners and White Hart quite satisfied with probably their best showing of the season.

Standings: Qormi 17; Young Stars 14; Hotsticks 7; Rabat 5; White Hart 5.
