Malta and Gozo were represented at the 47th edition of the International Travel Bureau, a leading travel show in Berlin, through the Malta Tourism Authority and the Gozo Tourism Association.
MTA’s chief executive officer Josef Formosa Gauci, Maltese and German MTA executives, GTA representatives and executives from Air Malta met leading tour operators, tourism representatives and journalists in the run-up to the travel show.
The island of Gozo was chosen as the main highlight by the MTA for the Berlin show.
The MTA office in Germany also launched a new Gozo guide, listing 100 moments of happiness from the island – testimonials by German holidaymakers and travel agents, accompanied by 100 reasons that make Gozo the destination to visit.
During the show, Gozitan chef George Borg entertained a group of around 50 German journalists with a range of Gozitan delicacies.
The event was addressed by Mr Formosa Gauci and Air Malta’s chief commercial officer Philip Saunders in the presence of Malta’s Ambassador to Germany Karl Xuereb.
Mr Formosa Gauci said the MTA was actively promoting Gozo as a distinct destination – with the launch of its new Gozo Guide and the dedicated Gozo online portal www.visitgozo.de, which showcases a variety of holiday ideas in the small island.
“These marketing initiatives would also be accompanied by an online advertising campaign. We are thrilled that these new initiatives have generated a lot of interest,” he added
More than 10,000 exhibitors from 188 countries participated in the fair, which was attended by over 100,000 trade visitors and more than 60,000 people.
