A group of European Studies students from the Convent of the Sacred Heart Foundation in St Julian’s recently attended an educational trip to Brussels.
During the trip, the students visited some of the main EU institutions in Brussels, including the European Parliament, the European Commission and Malta’s embassy, Dar Malta. They also met MEP Joseph Cuschieri, who explained his role and work in the European Parliament.
In the European Parliament’s parliamentarium, the students took part in a role play game to better understand the work of MEPs and the Council of Ministers.
At the European Commission, Karl Scerri, who works with Maltese Commissioner Tonio Borg, explained the role of the European Commissioners and the work of the employees who assist them in their work.
The visit helped the students to clearly understand the difference between the EU institutions and the Maltese Parliament as well as to appreciate more the importance of the EU in their lives and how they can apply what they have learnt in their studies to their future careers.
