• When consumers are unexpectedly contacted by sellers to make a purchase, they are legally protected by the cooling-off period in case they change their mind and want to cancel the sale.

• The seller is legally obliged to inform consumers about their cancellation rights.

• Door-to-door sellers/callers must disclose their identity and reason of call or visit.

• Doorstep sellers may only request up to a 10 per cent deposit after the cooling-off period expires. The rest of the payment should be made upon delivery of goods or when service commences.

• If a problem crops up, consumers should always first contact the seller and try to find a solution.
