The Archconfraternity of St Joseph of Rabat is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the coronation of the old statue of St Joseph venerated at St Mary of Jesus Franciscan church in Rabat. The coronation was held on May 1, 1963, on the Floriana Granaries by Archbishop Michael Gonzi.

A programme of commemorative events will kick off on Saturday, when the statue of St Joseph will be taken to Floriana.

A procession with the statue will be held at 6pm from Sarria church to St Publius parish church, Floriana, followed by a concelebration and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Archbishop José Rodriguez Carballo, the new Secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

The statue will then be accompanied by a carcade to Mdina. The L’Isle Adam Band of Rabat will take part in the event.
