Mosta blew the title race wide open after they held leaders Birkirkara to a goalless
draw at the National Stadium today.
It was a poor performance from the Stripes who after outplaying their opponents
for much of the second half they failed to profit from their numerical advantage
after Mosta striker Danail Mitev was dismissed late in the first half.
In the end the stalemate prevailed and Birkirkara’s failure to take all points could
see the title being contested by three teams as Valletta could get back in the hunt provided they can beat Tarxien in today’s match.
In the opening half it was Birkirkara who created the better chances with Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza firing over from routine distance while Yosimar Hernandez avoided Tyrone Farrugia to hit a low drive that came off the post.
Mosta also were dangerous and their best chance fell to Bryan Agius who saw his
firm drive pushed to a corner by Birkirkara goalkeeper Justin Haber.
After the break, Birkirkara were completely all over their opponents but they rarely threatened Jeffrey Farrugia in the Mosta goal.
In fact their only decent chances came from Shola Haruna Shodiya who fired
over from outside the area while in time added on Nikola Vukanac headed wide
from a Herrera delivery.
Mosta goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
