A man has been arrested in Pozzallo, Sicily, after arriving from Malta carrying some €8,800 in counterfeit banknotes.

He was stopped by Customs officers as he disembarked from the catamaran. They became suspicious of a heavy bag he was carrying.

Italian media named the man as Filippo Conduttore, 58, from Scicli (Syracuse).
