Talks are underway between Family Minister Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and Justice Parliamentary Secretary Owen Bonnici on how children in care could be adopted.

Speaking during a visit to St Joseph Home in Sta Venera, the minister said these children had a fundamental right to a family. So the government was professionally evaluating each case, with the involvement of the children themselves, so that they would be given this right.

She said that there were around 600 children in care, 350 waiting to be assessed and another 60 who had already been assessed but for whom there was no space.
