Another crucified cat was found nailed upside down on a wooden cross in Mosta, this time attached to the railing surrounding a statue of Our Lady.

It is the sixth animal found dead in Mosta in a number of months, baffling police and shocking residents.

The gruesome discovery was made yesterday morning by a passer-by who saw the animal tied close to the statue in Tower Road.

Police sources said a note, sealed with tape and stuck to the wooden cross, was being examined for clues.

Two cats were found crucified this year, one on February 23 and another on January 17. Another three animals were found in previous months, also nailed upside down.

The animal crucifixions in Mosta started in 2011 when two dead puppies were found nailed to crosses.

Most of the cases occurred on or around the 16th of the month and sometimes the perpetrator left a note.
