Lessons to learn from bees and ants and the euclid plane geometry are among the topics that will be addressed during an open day that launches the Science Expo on Sunday.

The open day, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, opens at 10 with a lecture-demonstration by Salome Matos, post-graduate student from the University of Edinburgh and member of MILSET, the European Executive Committee on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Richard O’Kennedy, from Ireland’s University of Enterprise, will then speak about applied biochemistry and he will be followed by Alison Rivett, from the University of Bristol’s ChemLabS outreach team on atmospheric science, who will speak on A Pollutant’s Tale.

‘Euclid Plane Geometry And The Paper Helicopter’ is the theme of a presentation by Nardone Pasquale from Université Libre de Bruxelles .

The final talk will be delivered by Adam Hart, from the University of Gloucestershire. Addressing the subject of pheromone chemistry, Prof. Hart will speak on What Can We Learn From Bees And Ants?

There will also be an exhibition of drawings and projects by Primary, Secondary, 6th Form and University students.

Entrance is free of charge and any donations will go in aid of local Cancer research projects.

Science Expo, an annual national science popularisation event, is organised by the National Student Travel Foundation.
