The police have requested court authorisation to issue regoratory letters seeking banking information about former Enemalta chairman Tancred Tabone in Switzerland and Gibraltar.

Mr Tabone is pleading not guilty to taking bribes in the oil procurement scandal.

The court will take its decision after considering submissions by the defence.

During a sitting this morning, the court heard officials from the various banks say that Mr Tabone only held accounts with HSBC.

Antoine Galea, Enemalta Executive Head of Finance presented copies of the contracts awarded to Trafigura and Total by Enemalta. He said that during the time that Mr Tabone was chairman, 10 contracts were awarded to Total and seven to Trafigura.

Of these seven, one was extended three times and another was extended once. There was unanimous agreement within the Oil Procurement Committee about the contracts. However when the scandal was rvealed, the Fuel Procurement Committee unanimously decided to black list the two companies pending investigations.
