The police have been asked to investigate the operations of the Animal Welfare Department by the Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Affairs and Animal Rights, Roderick Galdes.

The government said the investigation had been requested after a number of individuals alleged that a number of animals had over the past months been needlessly and illegally put to sleep.
