The Malta Developers Association (MDA) this evening welcomed the reduction in Mepa fees announced yesterday.

"This was one of the MDA’s main requests since it always maintained that the tariff structure should reflect the direct costs of Mepa’s service to applicants for permits and not as a means to raise money for other Mepa work that has nothing to do with the development application," the association said.

It said it appreciated the fact that the government had acted quickly, and it said it would work to restore confidence in the construciton sector without creating an artificial bubble through abuse or lack of sustainable planning.
