White Hart 1
Qormi 5

Played in rainy and blustery conditions, the game was over as a contest when, after taking an early lead, Qormi scored two goals either side of half-time to go three goals up.

Jonathan Borg lashed on to a Thomas Degiovanni pass to give Qormi a 1-0 lead on nine minutes.

Qormi applied further pressure from two penalty corners and a Zachary Degiovanni reverse hit across goal did not bear any fruit.

On the half-hour mark, White Hart won a penalty corner which was cleared and Qormi doubled their tally a minute later when Borg scored his second, hitting home from the top of the D.

The half-time whistle sounded with White Hart forcing two penalty corners but the score remained unchanged.

On 40 minutes, Borg completed his hat-trick to put Qormi 3-0 ahead.

Ten minutes later, White Hart’s Tony Azzopardi failed to reduce the arrears in a one-on-one situation with the Qormi custodian.

It was not until the 56th minute that Qormi increased their tally through Steve Tanti.

Four minutes later they went further ahead when Borg grabbed his fourth of the day and Qormi’s fifth following a penalty stroke.

Keith Laferla pulled one back for White Hart two minutes from time.

But it was Qormi who emerged as worthy winners, opening a three-point lead over Young Stars at the top.

Umpires: Manuel Imbroll Reno Cremona.

Standings: Qormi 13; Young Stars 10; Hotsticks 7; Rabat 5; White Hart 5.
