The Malta women’s national team need just a point from today’s match against Latvia at the Centenary Stadium to seal their place in the next round of the 2015 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Pierre Brincat’s girls go into this evening clash brimming with confidence following Saturday’s impressive 6-0 mauling of Luxembourg left them top of the group on goal difference over Albania who also have four points.

With Latvia having just one point to show from their opening two matches, Malta need just to avoid defeat against the former Soviet republic to secure one of the two qualifying berths available from the four-team group.

In today’s opening match, Albania will be looking to secure the other qualifying spot when they entertain Luxembourg.

The Albanians, 2-0 winners over Latvia on Saturday, are not expected to find any problems to complete their mission as they face a Luxembourg side who have yet to score in the mini-tournament.

Standings
Malta (1-1-0) 4; Albania (1-1-0) 4; Latvia (0-1-1) 1; Luxembourg (0-1-1) 1.

Today’s programme
Centenary Stadium: 4pm Albania vs Luxembourg; 6.30pm Malta vs Luxembourg.
