The Ħamrun Spartans Nursery, in collaboration with the Ħamrun Local Council, organised the annual Tony Bajada Memorial during the Easter holidays.

The 12th edition of this tournament proved another success for the nursery as over 300 boys and girls, aged six to 14, participated in the event, held at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. The sponsors were Cochlear, Colgate and Gatorade.

In the competition for children born in 1999, two teams from Athlone ADSL, of Ireland, the Athlone Scholars and Athlone Saints, took part.

Pietà and Paola Hibs claimed the top two spots in the first group while Athlone Scholars and Mosta qualified for the semi-finals from the second five-team pool.

In the first semi-final, Mosta beat Pietà and, in the second, Hibs prevailed over Athlone after a penalty shoot-out.

The final between Mosta and Paola Hibs was a balanced match which ended 1-1. Paola Hibs lifted the Tony Bajada Challenge Cup after edging Mosta on penalties.

Hibs also secured the top-scoring Award while Ath-lone Scholars took the Fair Play prize in the 1999 class.

Pietà, Naxxar and Ħamrun Spartans claimed the 2001, 2003 and 2007 Fair Play awards respectively. No tournament winners were declared in these three categories in accordance with Youth FA guidelines.

Mementos and gifts from the tournament sponsors were instead given to all participants.
