St Andrew’s consolidated fifth place in the standings after easing past Marsaxlokk 4-1.

The Saints took the lead after six minutes when Michael Grima’s grounder from an acute angle had the better of Omar Borg, the Marsaxlokk goalkeeper.

Marsaxlokk came close six minutes later but Da Silveira’s run was blocked by Matthew Towns, the St Andrew’s goalkeeper.

Midway through the first half , a Nicky Vella Petroni half-volley was saved by Borg. Marsaxlokk drew level on the half hour when Dylan Micallef hit home from the edge of the area after good work by Da Silveira.

Five minutes from the break, St Andrew’s regained the lead when Trayo Grozev headed home from Neil Chetcuti’s fine cross.

Two minutes later, Joseph Farrugia’s free-kick for St Andrew’s was saved by Borg.

Five minutes into the second half, St Andrew’s scored their third goal, Grozev again heading home spectacularly from a Rumen Kerekov cross.

The Saints continued to push forward, Borg denying Farrugia and Kerekov.

Marsaxlokk responded with efforts from Da Silveira and Gary Caruana but St Andrew’s got their fourth three minutes from the end thanks to an outstanding shot from William Camilleri which beat Borg hands down.
