A man was condemned to a two-year jail term suspended for three years today on conviction of having defiled his four-year-old son.

A court heard that the man, who was going through marriage separation, had picked up his then girlfriend and his son and they drove to Ta’Xbiex.

There was conflicting evidence of what happened in the car.

The boy allegedly told his mother that he had seen his father having sex with his girlfriend. However the woman said he had undressed and told his son that ‘one day you will have one like this'. She said the man had groped her but she stopped him because of the boy.

The court accepted the woman’s version of events in view of discrepancies in evidence by other people on what took place between the man and the woman in the car.

The court also noted that the prosecution seemed to be accepting the woman's version of events.
