The Lotteries and Gaming Authority has suspended the licence of Casino di Venezia in Vittoriosa due to non-adherence of its conditions, according to the parliamentary secretary for Competitiveness Edward Zammit Lewis.

Speaking to timesofmalta.com, he said 67 employees were facing job uncertainty after the casino failed to comply with its stipulated conditions due to losses it has been making since the end of 2011.

Dr Zammit Lewis said the Government had spent the last two weeks working for the interests of the employees with the General Workers’ Union.

He explained that the financial problems of the company had led to non-adherence of its licence conditions and the LGA had followed the law by issuing a suspension notice.

“This is a problem we inherited and has been coming for years,” he said, adding that the Government was committed to safeguarding jobs and boosting the casino industry.
