Hans-Thies Lehmann, a professor of Theatre Studies at Johan Wolfgang Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, will give a series of lectures organised by the Theatre Studies Department on the following topics:

• Postdramatic Theatre as Concept, on April 8 from 9am to noon in Gateway Building, Hall 1;

• Theatre and the Political, on April 9 from 2 to 5pm in Lecture Theatre 2;

• Tragedy Today, on April 10 from 9am to noon in Gateway Building, Hall 2;

The lectures are open to the public.

Prof. Lehmann has published widely on contemporary theatre, Brecht, theatre aesthetics, and film.

Studying, working as German translators

An information meeting about studying German translation and interpreting, working in this area as well as opportunities for translators and interpreters at EU institutions will be held on April 9 at 4pm at the University’s Faculty of Arts Library, Old Humanities Building, Msida. The meeting, organised by the Department of German, is open to the public and will be conducted in English.

The meeting will be addressed by Joseph Eynaud, head of the University’s Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies, Brian Buhagiar, language officer at the European Commission Representation in Valletta, and Jan-Lucas Zehlicke, a current University student.

Some reflections on the banking crisis

Some Reflections on the Bank-ing Crisis is the title of the fourth Nadia Farrugia Memorial Lecture which will be delivered by Barry Howcroft from the Loughborough School of Business and Economics, and current holder of the Central Bank of Malta chair in Economics.

The lecture, organised by the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, will be held on April 11 at 6.30pm, at the Aula Magna of the University’s Valletta campus, St Paul Street, Valletta.

Refreshments will be served afterwards.

The lecture is open to the public, particularly employeesworking in the banking and financial sector.

Addiction counselling five-day seminar and practical workshop

A seminar and practical workshop on addiction counselling is being held to explore addictions embedded in individuals, families, social and economic systems, and to demonstrate the practical use of addiction counselling.

The seminar, organised by the University’s Department of Counselling, will be conducted by Michael Roth, founding chairman and president of Zensis Psychosocial Addiction Counselling Centre in Frankfurt, Germany.

The seminar is aimed at professionals, practitioners and students of counselling, psychology, social services, health sciences, addiction-related settings and other helping professions.

The event will be held between April 22 and 25 from 5 to 8pm, and ends with a full-day workshop on April 26.
