Members of the Civil Protection Department were called to St Anne Street, Floriana this afternoon to spread sand over fuel spilled by a bus from near the former US Embassy to past the lion’s statue.

A source within the department said that personnel were regularly called to cover bus fuel spills which occurred when drivers did not properly screw on the fuel tank tap after filling with diesel.

The fuel made the road more slippery so sand was spread to reduce the danger for motorists.
