John Consiglio writes:

It isn’t on every new lawyer that the Lord bestows the gift of realisation that the best manner of being a credit to that noble profession is, perhaps more than mere erudition in the law, by being nice and constantly warm and welcoming to each and every one of our fellow brethren.

Joseph Caruana Scicluna, who died last Saturday, was one of those chosen by the Almighty for endowment with this gift.

He was kindness itself. He served, with that as his main quality, many companies on whose boards I sat and it was with more of that quality plus legal knowhow, rather than vice-versa, that he endeared himself to all of us who knew him and were honoured to be served by him.

Of course, his dear family will miss him very much. But they should also be proud of a wonderful man, with a great heart, constantly unrestricted approachability, kindness in every single word he said and always ready to help everyone. This is the way I knew him and this is the way I will always remember him.

I am sure he is already reaping the fruit of his meek but great inward spirituality and gentleness.
