Vote counting for five casual elections will tomorrow determine which Labour Party candidates will fill seats vacated by those elected in two districts.
Casual elections for seats vacated by Nationalist Party candidates will be held on April 3
Luciano Busuttil, Yana Mintoff-Bland, David Farrugia Sacco and John Buttigieg are all vying for the first district seat ceded by Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech.
In the second district, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s seat is being contested by Christopher Agius, Dr Mintoff Bland, Rita Law, George Adrian Meli and Victor Sultana.
Malta’s longest-serving parliamentarian, Joe Debono Grech, will be hoping to extend his four decades further in the eighth district. He will compete against Dr Buttigieg, Clifford Galea and Marc Sant for the seat given up by Finance Minister Edward Scicluna.
The 10th district casual election will see Michael Falzon, Clifton Grima, Sigmund Mifsud, Joanne Vella Cuschieri and Nakita Zammit Alamango compete for the seat vacated by Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia.
A seat vacated by Education Minister Evarist Bartolo on the 12th district completes the set of casual elections. Clayton Bartolo, Clifford Galea, Alfred Grima, Deborah Tabone Schembri, Lorna Vassallo and Joanne Vella Cuschieri will all be hoping to win it.
Counting starts at 8am. Casual elections for seats left by Nationalist Party candidates will be held on April 3.
