The police early this afternoon rounded up two horses after chasing them down part of the Rabat road into Sta Venera and Mriehel By-pass.

Eyewitnesses said one of the horses was caught near Umberto Calosso School and the other near the Crosscraft showroom. One of the horses was injured.

Several police cars were deployed.

It is not known where the horses escaped from.

A reader, Owen Azzopardi, said he was driving towards Rabat when he saw the two horses tearing down the road near Attard Cemetery. One of the cars in front swerved to avoid them and crashed into another car.

"It was scary seeing the horses gallop towards us, luckily there was no car on the inside lane and I could get out of the way safely," he said.

He added that he phoned the police, who told him they had already been informed.

The police said no one was injured. One of the horses was caught by policemen from the mobile section and the other by police from the mounted police section.
