The entrance to the village of Sannat is flanked by beautiful Ficus nitida trees which used to provide precious shade. I talked to a member of the Sannat council who told me that the trees are the responsibility of the headmaster of the school.

If this is so he is the first headmaster to prune these trees in this fashion and to destroy the only trees we have in Sannat. The trees are not disturbing anybody; they form part of the schoolyard and provide shade to passers-by on the side walk.

Why are the trees pruned this way? What is the motive behind of such an action?
