A group of 24 students from Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, Naxxar, recently took part in the Euroscuola programme held at the European Parliament Hemicycle in Strasbourg.

During the event the students were split into groups and discussed topics related to the EU’s work on issues such as the environment, freedom of information, agriculture, migration and Europe’s future. Nicole Causon and Matthew Schembri were chosen as presidents of their respective groups.

On their return to the plenary session in the Hemicycle’s main chamber each group presented reports on the discussions held and a debate ensued during which John Charles Fenech and Bernice Vella intervened to voice their opinion. Thereafter, all students voted using the electronic voting system normally used by MEPs.

The programme also included a competition called the Eurogame, in which Luisa Fenech was a member of the finalist team.

The students were chosen to take part in the visit by the European Commission Representation in Malta after sitting for an exam.

The trip also included excursions in Strasbourg and Colmar. The students were accompanied by teachers Christine Bezzina and Maxim Cassar.
