McDonald’s to expand, create 200 jobs
McDonald's Malta will be holding a recruitment drive this Saturday as part of its plans to employ 200 recruits - a mix of full-timers and part-timers. The event will be held at the Baystreet Conference Room between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The company said the recruitment drive aims to cater for the heightened manpower demands it faces during the busy summer months as well as its upcoming expansion, which is now imminent.
The company is planning to open a new restaurant in the heart of Sliema in May, followed by the opening of a new McDrive restaurant later in the year in the Naxxar area.
All recruits will be trained to operate within the McDonald’s system and their training will help strengthen a broad range of their skills.

Dwar il-paga nista' nghid li naf min jahdem bhala waiter f'restaurants ohra u jithallas bit-3 euros fis-siegha. Jien nista' nghid li l-inqas paga taghna hija ta' ftit inqas mid-doppju ta' dawn il-waiters li qed insemmi. L-istess ammont ta' paga taghna hija kwazi ekwivalenti (xi 20c inqas) minn xi nies li naf li jahdmu go xi ufficini.

McDonald's is simply giving people what they demand. In politics, votes are expressed as ballot papers; in business, votes are expressed as spending.

Looks like there is not enough education about healthy eating in Malta.
C Cassar
Mar 21st, 17:25
That education is the full responsibility of parents/grand parents not the state.

More fast food..........not something to be proud of. go back to our diet..........40-60 years ago. That was the real maltese mediterranean diet.
C Cassar
Mar 21st, 09:49
No it wasn't. Malta has never had the 'Mediterranean diet' Pastizzi are far more unhealthy than any burger. What about pies, soft drinks, pasta, lasagne, timpana etc? All very unhealthy and always been a main part of Maltese diet.

maybe they are crap jobs for you .. but surely not for us students who would like to work a part time job while studying, which in this case mcdonald's is the PERFECT choice.
About low earnings, I'm curious to know what's the range for low earning for you..

You are what you eat.
Who wants to be cheap, easy, fast and unhealthy?
You get what you pay for.
It's actually disgusting value for money when u think.about it.

It has been proved that the burger itself is quite healthy.
Remove the chips and the mayo and you have a healthy cheap meal.

Agree there are many negative things to say about this chain which are mentioned in the comments below. But there is also positive: (1) toilets very clean (2) food inexpensive and satisfying (3) easy to compare prices to similar product in any branch abroad (4) you know what you're getting and if you don't like it and prefer to pay 25 euros or more for stuff dished out in a restaurant, do so.

S. Bugeja
Mar 21st, 08:25
I used to work at McDonald's two Summers ago. The toilets are not always very clean and managers expected me to check them every 10 minutes. The way things are at McDonald's do not depend on the crew working there but also on the people who go eat there. And I can tell you that most of the customers I met had no respect for the crew.

Great - just what Malta needed. More junk food and slave wages. It is called the Americanisation of Europe.

Mar 20th, 18:23
Excellent comment Charles. The power of the irrelevant things in life (marketed by the Americans) have grasped our society as well. Globalization is a fraud!!
What about Obesity in our country? Moreover what about the actual ingredients in these type of foods?

I don't think that they pay minimum wage there. I used to work there and the only thing I complain about are the shifts since I always ended my shifts late at night.

Congratulations to Macdonald's for creating yet another fast food outlet to serve our already obese youngsters!

Another contribution to Malta's fat population. Thank you for producing more obese children with marketing targeting this innocent section of our population. Also, the amount of waste following a kids meal is simply ridiculous! How come no green taxes apply??

Actually you are contradicting yourself, Ms. Borg
Are you possibly so naive or blinkered not to realise that this expansion is the fruit of MacDonalds success in Malta over the past decade and that it must have been months and years in the planning...

Mar 20th, 18:13
Ms.Borg this expansion has been confirmed for more than 6 months now , why go political in such dumb arguments?

For sure I won't go there to eat, but it is not complaining if someone tells you that it is a fact that some things are bad for you.
You have two choices either ignore the advice or take the advice and go buy yourself some decent food (or just cook something).

Mar 20th, 20:11

Do you believe that now your employer should also provide you with free transport? Even doctors go to work with their own car.
For young people this would be useful experience in life.
I am proud this was my first job. I took it seriously, managed to improve my position and till today I think it was a positive experience in my life.

Yippy more crappy deadly food!!! Just want we need to increase cancer rates & obesity.
McDonald's will stop using 'pink slime' (aka, ammonium hydroxide) in it's beef after a campaign against it by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver raised public awareness and grossed people.

The rates you quoted are in US D, which do not translate to every McDonald's in the world. In Malta, employees get paid a wage similar to those offered by 5 Star Hotels (Corinthia, HIlton) and it may have gone up recently....and they get an increased pay on Sundays and PHs. Quite good for a part time job

Peter Murray

Mar 20th, 15:53
Yes Peter, compared to a waiter or kitchen helper they have a quite good wage.
