Police are investigating the alleged disappearance of documents indicating corruption at Enemalta after they were passed to the Security Service in August 2011.

The investigation was triggered by revelations in The Sunday Times that the Government received a tip-off in relation to alleged tax evasion by oil trader George Farrugia, who was recently given a presidential pardon.

The service received a detailed dossier containing invoices and damning e-mails to and from Mr Farrugia in August 2011. Only a part of that dossier was passed on to the Finance Ministry.

The agency, whose primary area is national security, is unlikely to have investigated corruption itself as it does not have the expertise or setup to investigate corruption and money trails.

There is no indication that any documents were passed on to the police.
