Three chemistry students from St Margaret’s Girls’ Secondary School, Żejtun, recently placed second in the cinema section of an international competition forming part of the EU-funded Immersion in the Science Worlds through the Arts (ISWA) project.

The aim of the project was to engage young people in science by presenting the creative and emotional aspects of the subject, and showing the links between the arts and science.

The three students – Martina Mifsud, Angelina Dimitrova and Celine Camilleri – produced a six-minute video entitled The Science of Playgrounds, which takes viewers on a sliding, rocking and spinning journey involving swings, a see-saw, a merry-go-round, a rocking critter and slides in a playground, while explaining in scientific language the ‘invisible magic’ taking place. The video can be viewed at www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL-J6Tq9mss.
