The European Commission has launched a new website www.consumerclassroom.eu, which provides resources and interactive tools for teachers of 12 to 18-year-old students. The website is intended to supply students with the practical consumer skills they need.

The website, which can also be used by teachers from across the EU to help prepare and share lessons with students and other teachers, is EU-funded and aims to stimulate consumer education in secondary schools.

The consumer classroom website was developed with the help of teachers from across the EU and is aimed at EU teachers, to help them:

• Empower students with the practical consumer skills they need for real life;

• Prepare engaging and interactive lessons about interesting consumer topics;

• Access high-quality teaching resources from across the EU, all in one place;

• Collaborate with other teachers through the EU-wide community;

• Set up inter-school projects and competitions to engage their students; and

• Expand knowledge of consumer education.

The features and tools teachers will find on the consumer classroom website include an interactive lesson builder; a My Class area to share lessons with students; inter-school projects and competitions; an EU forum allowing exchange of views, sharing of consumer education news and experiences of peers across the EU; and knowledge-building materials for teachers.
